Generating insight based ideas for EXCO sign-off for a Global Private Bank

The Need

Facilitate 6 top talent teams from our Global Private Bank to deliver answers to key projects and present them to the CEO and Board. In addition, make recommendations on embedding these solutions within 90 days to inform the 2017 strategy.

The Solution

We designed a Hackathon based PROJECT which took 6 teams through an intense creative process to yield insight based ideas. The final ideas and pitch narrative were written and rehearsed as part of the process. In addition, Genius Box facilitated the final pitch presentations to the CEO and EXCO. The final hackathon sessions required deep subject matter expertise and differentiating insight in a matter of only a few weeks. The project groups’ achievements were all the more impressive given few of the participants had met each other prior to the programme, all were working remotely and across geography with working time differences of up to 12+hours and, as senior top talent, doing all this whilst leading business as usual for one of the world’s strongest and high performing Global Private Banks.


After several months of negotiation prior to the project, digital execution (specifically online only) had never been signed off within the Bank.
One of the outputs of the project was Exco sign-off of online only product activation in no small part to project teams’ empiric evidence and findings during the insight Hackathon process.
Further impact includes differentiated and personalised Customer Passporting, elegant changes to the strategy for internal Risk Communcations, new ideas to address under served banking segments and ideas to amplify the role & purpose of the Private Bank to create value within and across the wider parent PLC.
Banking is perceived as a notoriously difficult space in which to innovate – but we say ‘no!’ WE embraced the constraints of regulation and compliance to frame our creative efforts. What was particularly rewarding on this project was seeing the growth in belief across these leaders that change can happen with a healthy positive attitude and a shift from a ‘risk’ mind-set to one of ‘growth’. #blowstrumpet.
